Goal of treatment

To rehouse the textile in its existing frame, ensuring its safe preservation for future generations

Summary of treatment

This embroidered panel was removed from its frame and separated from its backing board with the aid of acetone-soaked blotter paper and Sympatex in a humidification envelope. Additional adhesive residue was removed from the edges of the textile and the interior of the frame using acetone and cotton swabs.

A new, acid-free backing board was covered with muslin. The embroidered panel was stitched to a support fabric under tension, which was wrapped around the board and stitched in place.

Barrier strips of Mylar were inserted to protect the textile from the acidity of the wooden frame. The former mat was not included in the updated frame package, at the client's request.
